Many Metro Atlanta homes weren’t built to support modern HVAC ductwork, but that’s no reason to settle for subpar heating and cooling. At Peppers Heating and Air, we build highly versatile ductless mini-split systems designed to accommodate all your comfort needs.
How Ductless Split Systems Work
Ductless AC systems are known as mini-splits because they’re “split” into two primary units. Like traditional central AC and heat pump systems, they feature an outdoor unit containing a condenser and compressor. This condenser unit does most of the hard work, including pumping refrigerant and absorbing or releasing heat energy.
Ordinarily, this unit works with a central air handler to circulate conditioned air throughout the home via ductwork. In mini-split systems, however, the central air handler is replaced by one or more “head” units acting as separate air handlers. Each head unit produces its own airflow and is fed by a small conduit, elminiating the need for conventional air ducts.
Custom Climate Control for Any Situation
It’s not just the lack of ductwork that makes mini-split systems so versatile. Individual air handler units come in many sizes and styles designed for mounting on nearly any wall, floor or ceiling. They’re compact, unobtrusive and easy to place wherever they’re needed most. A single condenser unit can support up to eight individual heads, this provides the flexibility to heat and cool an entire home. Of course, ductless AC systems are also great for all sorts of smaller projects. Some of the most popular applications for split systems include:
- Attic, loft and basement conversions
- Garages, workshops and three-season rooms
- Home additions and renovated spaces
What Can Ductless AC Do for You?
There are clearly many ways to use ductless mini-splits in your home or office, but are they actually worth the investment? Well, yes! As it turns out, getting rid of air ducts doesn’t just make mini-splits easier to install in tight spaces. It also makes them more efficient, cleaner and more adaptable to your particular needs.
Without regular upkeep, HVAC ducts can often develop leaks and collect large volumes of dust and dirt. That can’t and doesn’t happen with a ductless AC unit, which means less wasted energy and less particle pollution in the air. Many split systems also support separate controls for each air handler, providing a simple solution for HVAC zoning.
